My name is Gypsy Smith and I'm a 14 year old High School student. 

I tried to make an appointment at Darker Shades to get my dreads done and was told that there was only 1 day available in the next 3 months! That day was a school day but dad let me take a sickie! 

I went in first thing in the morning for my appointment and Lynda was so welcoming. She seemed really excited that I was getting dreads.

First she washed and dried my hair to get rid of any residual shampoo and even though I'd never done that sort of thing before, Lynda made me feel comfortable and cool with it all.

Then Lynda separated my hair into sections and started back-combing it. It hurt a bit but Lynda and the others just kept laughing and joking so I didn't really notice. We stopped for lunch and Lynda had made a chicken and rice thing with this crazy sauce that tasted so good (I had seconds!).Then they started waxing my hair and dad came to pick me up! We weren't even close to finished! Dreading takes ages!

Dad played guitar while Lynda finished waxing, palm-rolling and trimming my dreads and then it was done! The dreads looked like they'd been there for years! 

She had all the things we needed to maintain my dreads like; stocking caps, non-residual shampoo, dreadwax, scalp-spray and heaps of advice including a Dreadlocks Maintenance Sheet.

She made me promise to come back in a week to check that the dreads were OK and she even gave me a student discount.

I walked in with long bleached hair and walked out with 105 dreads! It was SO cool.
